Hi Bryan,

I loved your blog comments here. I thought I would pass on again our appreciation for your music at St Jacobs Mennonite and how it keeps 'infiltrating' our worship. You are probably aware of how our whole Sunday School Christmas program is a play (written by Rebecca Seiling) that takes off on your Detectives of Divinty CD and music.

I should also add that recently, as part of our "Heart of Mennonite Worship" 4 week worship series, we ended with a Sunday morning on "Why Gather Songs for Worship." We sang our way through our history of music-making, with a song chosen from each of the hymnals and music resources throughout our history. What a fun morning of singing. One of the categories we had was simply 'Bryan Moyer Suderman songs" since these have become so much a part of our worship. We sang two of your songs as part of our offering time. (My Offerings I bring/There's Enough for all). This idea was a bit of a take off from the plenary session this past July at Mennonite Church Canada where we physically displayed all the hymnals and binders and memory sticks and resources over the years in the Mennonite Church, and where I talked about the role of your songs and other Mennonite composers in the present church. Singing is so important to our worship and I continue to affirm the contribution your music is making to our corporate experience of worship. Thanks,

Hi Bryan,
I can't make your concert on Saturday. It is a full day with an MCC school kits breakfast in the am. and my daughter's BD party in the aft (eight girls) and a BD party in the evening with this and that squeezed in. That all said, we have arranged for Jonah to attend your concert with Thomas Bugden. Thomas' mom Patricia will attend with them. I would like to buy your new CD. Jonah is supposed to have money and come home with it. If he doesn't have money, please give a copy to him and I will send you a cheque.

Thanks and have a good time on Saturday.

That little girl's amazement in Saskatoon was a real LOL moment. Yes, music is a language all its own, ever changing - even one's 'own' music, but then, is it ever one's own, after you let it go...

Wow.....inspirational examples of "touching a chord"!
Love it........We've enjoyed using some of your songs here at the seminary and other gatherings, Now, we're getting ready for India and another new context.......where so much is applicable in more new ways as we teach, sing, pray, listen and learn together about being faithful to our God of Love and of History.
Blessings and Thanks! Mom

I love that reaction from the 4 year old girl. Priceless. Wonderful when "your" music becomes "our" music - spreading the ownership far and wide.

Bryan, I really enjoyed your post. I had a conversation with my African Grade 9 English students just this week about just this sort of thing. They were being critical of over-interpretation of writing and so we talked about how when you publish something (art, music, poetry, etc.) you make it public and it really takes on a life of its own. At that point, what people choose to do with it is really out of the Creator's control. In many ways, that is what it means to be an artist. To put yourself out there for public opinion, good or bad, is a vulnerable, but hopefully rewarding venture. I'm glad you are experiencing this joy.
